How much does child therapy cost?
Our licensed child therapists are registered social workers and registered psychotherapists.
At CASE Psychology, our therapy and consultation rate is $ 165. per hour.
The same rate applies for in-person child therapy, in-person parent consultation, as well as for online video services.
In Ontario, therapy and consultation services from registered social workers and registered psychotherapists are HST-exempt.
Your payment card on file will be charged at the end of your child therapy or parent consultation session, and we’ll email you the official receipt.

Will my extended health insurance cover the cost of child therapy?
Child therapy and parent consultation provided by private clinics, such as CASE Psychology, are not covered under OHIP in Ontario.
We recommend that you check with your insurance provider whether you and your child have extended health insurance coverage for registered social workers or registered psychotherapists.
At CASE Psychology, we do not require a doctor’s referral for any of our services. We suggest you check with your insurance provider whether they require a medical doctor’s referral in order to reimburse you for mental health services.

What happens in my initial consultation with the child therapist?
Child therapy usually begins with a parent-only 1-hour initial consultation, where our licensed child therapist discusses your child’s mental and medical history, as well as the family’s mental and medical history.
The child therapist will deep-dive your child’s presenting concerns, and develop the optimal treatment plan with you to address your child’s mental health needs. They may also begin providing parenting strategies and techniques to help you, the parent or caregiver, better manage situations inside and outside the home.

What does child therapy look like?
After the parent-only initial consultation, child therapy is usually a two-pronged approach: our experienced child therapist may have some one-on-one treatment time directly with your child, and they’ll also likely spend more one-on-one time with you, the parent or caregiver. We recognize the crucial role that parents play in their child’s development, and we actively involve and engage parents throughout their child’s treatment.
Depending on your child’s age and mental health needs, the child therapist may spend more time interacting directly with the child, or may spend more time working closely with you, the parent, to enhance the parent-child connection and strengthen effective parenting approaches.
At times, the child therapist may have joint sessions, for example, parent and child, or a family session.
In the early stages of child therapy, our licensed child therapists usually work with the child and / or parent on a weekly or biweekly basis. In time, as progress is made, this may be reduced to monthly sessions, and then on-demand sessions only when needed.

In-Person child therapy and online video services available
Many of our licensed child therapists offer in-person child therapy and in-person parent consultation appointments at our welcoming Burlington clinic. All our licensed child therapists also offer online video services for clients throughout Ontario.

How many child therapy sessions will my child need?
Generally, there’s no specific number of child therapy sessions that you and your child may need, as it depends on several factors, including the types and severity of the presenting concerns, and how well progress is being made.

We provide child therapy in other languages too
All our licensed child therapists provide services in English, and a few are also fluent in other languages, such as French, Tagalog, and Mandarin.
