How much does teen therapy cost?
Our licensed teen therapists are registered social workers and registered psychotherapists.
At CASE Psychology, our therapy and consultation rate is $ 165. per hour.
The same rate applies for in-person teen therapy, in-person parent consultation, as well as for online video services.
In Ontario, therapy and consultation services from registered social workers and registered psychotherapists are HST-exempt.
Your payment card on file will be charged at the end of your teen therapy or parent consultation session, and we’ll email you the official receipt.

Will my extended health insurance cover the cost of teen therapy?
Teen therapy and parent consultation provided by private clinics, such as CASE Psychology, are not covered under OHIP in Ontario.
We recommend that you check with your insurance provider whether you and your adolescent have extended health insurance coverage for registered social workers or registered psychotherapists. Please be aware of the details of your extended health insurance policy, including whether your plan requires a doctor’s referral for reimbursement of mental health services.
At CASE Psychology, we do not require a doctor’s referral for any of our services.

What happens in the initial consultation with the teen therapist?
In Ontario, an individual aged 12 years, or older, may consent for therapy on their own. Therefore, the 1-hour initial consultation to begin teen therapy usually includes the adolescent as the main person meeting with the teen therapist. If the adolescent agrees, one or both parents may also join the initial consultation.

Our licensed teen counsellor will deep-dive the teen’s mental and medical history, as well as the family’s mental and medical history, and try to uncover the presenting concerns, and the dynamics of this particular situation. After discussing and setting clear, measureable, and achievable goals for therapy, the teen therapist develops the optimal treatment plan that best supports the teen’s mental health needs.

What does teen therapy look like?
Depending on the teen’s mental health needs, the teen therapist will usually book treatment sessions on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis at mutually convenient dates & times.

Teen therapy treatment sessions are strictly confidential between the teen and the teen counsellor. No information is shared with parents, or any external party, except what the teen has consented to. This enables the teen therapist to build rapport with the adolescent, and helps the teen to begin trusting the teen therapist.

Still, parents can play an important role in their teen’s mental health. Depending on your teen’s mental health concerns, the teen counsellor may work towards actively involving parents as part of your teen’s treatment, with appropriate consent from the respective parties.
